Applied Nutrition are proud to fuel the athletes at Gallaghers Gym, which has a high level boxing stable including household names like John Murray, Joe Murray, the Smith brothers and Anthony Crolla.
Anthony Crolla has recently been on an incredible journey. Earlier in the year he sustained severe injuries while trying to detain a burglar and his career looked to be in jeopardy. The injuries included a broken ankle and serious head injury, with many wondering what the psychological damage would be even if he healed physically.
However after making a full recovery, he fought for the WBA lightweight World title in July against tough Columbian boxer Darleys Perez. Anthony appeared to be winning the fight, and the Columbian was deducted two points for low blows so it was a shock to everyone watching when the fight was declared a draw.
As such an immediate rematch was made, and Anthony got his revenge with a wicked body shot that landed with just 30 seconds remaining of the fifth round. Perez fell to his knees and failed to make the count, which sent the MEN Arena into frenzy and Anthony into an emotional victory.
After the fight, Anthony said:
“It’s been an absolute roller-coaster the last 12 months and this is the perfect finish. It’s a dream come true. I thought it would be a head shot that won the fight but I’ll take that body shot any day of the week.”
“I remember sinking the left in downstairs and, like most people who land a good body shot, I knew it was over there and then.”
Anthony Crolla is now the first Applied Nutrition fuelled boxer to win a World Championship, but next week on November 28th Tyson Fury is challenging Wladimir Klitschko for the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight world titles. The Fury camp is also fuelled by Applied Nutrition so make sure you tune in for the fight next week.
